"Yeah, absolutely. When I first started in the business, it was that heroin-chic moment. All those emaciated girls. Which followed the supermodel moment, and was followed by the Brazilians. Boobs, beautiful skin, all that hair. Then we went back to the Belgians, the quirky girls. It comes in waves, waves of extremes. We’re back to beautiful right now. If you want to sum it up in one person, it’s the Lara Stone moment. Sexy. I think it has something to do with the economy. Awkward doesn’t sell. Sex does."

I like these behind-the-scenes excerpts; they fill those gaps in the anthology that is the fashion industry. Side note: I like the term ‘heroin-chic’, but it’s just plain messed up. & I completely agree with those last few lines.

Floral rhinoceros

Woke up to an ash sky and left the house armed with my umbrella (that leaks *insert sianzzxxxzz face*). The last time I dashed across the road in a drizzle, my hair bled & stained my brother’s shirt orange. I steal his clothes sometimes, usually the ones I pick out & convince him to buy; he’s too boring to wear them even though he could so pull off the cardigan-tshirt-jeans/berms look. I wish he’d put in some effort. This military green cardigan’s his, hence all the talk about my brother & his clothes.
I haven’t obsessed over my hair in a while (so I suppose that justifies the following) and just noticed the millimeters of emergent dark roots; I don’t really know what I’ll do about that in the coming months. £1.99 clips from H&M, instant magic. Love my rhino ring. Oh yes, on my right foot, my second toe is longer than my big toe, and apparently that means I love my mum more. Hmm..

DIY: peach cloud
(I actually bothered to write ‘instructions’ this time, go me.)

Peach-hued mesh resembling swirls of cotton candy—irresistibly pretty; I had to get it. Two yards: just about enough to make something with but still budget-friendly (can’t even afford $12, sucks being broke). By purchasing such fabric, you’ve committed yourself to impossible girly-ness; there’s no exceptions when it screams bridal & ballet.
Instructions:
- First, as whimsically as you’d allow yourself to, pin a handful of fabric onto a mannequin (mine’s asymmetrical, zero accuracy required), and keep pinning, twisting & tying along the way.
- Next, grab some matching (or not-so-matching) thread & a needle, and secure the fabric as you see fit. Hopefully you’ll maneuver your needle carefully and these stitches would be hidden under a layer of mesh.
Poof, there you have your cascading cloud in two quick steps. Ideally, it would be worn over a white one-shoulder dress (that I don’t have).
& here’s my little ‘mood board’. Clockwise from top left: John Galliano spring 2008, Chanel haute couture spring 2010, Doo.Ri spring 2008, Burberry Prorsum spring 2010. Everyone’s on about fall and resort 2011, but I’m still stuck talking about spring collections.

Neil Barrett Spring 2011 Portraits

Do excuse me, everyone needs something to look forward to when you’ve woken up earlier than you would like but can’t retreat beneath the covers because there is much to be done. Visa issues are somewhat settled, so everything’s suddenly cupcakes, rainbows, unicorns, hot abs, & fairydust. I’m going to have a good day, and you will too.

emote

A little something we’re working on (& by ‘we’, I don’t mean me, since I’m not actually doing anything). Stay tuned. I hope it’s epic.

More late night fun
I suppose this is part two (part one):

Tried messing with the split-focus filter I was gifted last year (first photo) but quickly tired of its limited effect, regrettably so; I’ve now realized I quite like it. Dark, gloom, doom, I-will-eat-you-up makeup, which sadly epitomises my day—I’m having visa problems and there’s the tiniest chance that I may be stuck here. I don’t even know what the odds are, but if I need a new CAS number (& if that takes two weeks), I’ll need to find myself another internship/part-time job. Until tomorrow morning, I’ll be over there praying. Maybe my worrywart of an alter-ego has taken over, that’s all.

What’s been up.

- Tumblr was down for eons yesterday, didn’t appreciate that at all. Coincidentally, activemeter was down the days before tumblr crashed.
- Just got a Chictopia account.
- Curled my hair into oblivion the other day, only to have them cheetos puffs uncoil within three hours. Apparently, my hair doesn’t hold curls (or red dye) too well..
- Considering upgrading to a 550D after borrowing Marian’s for something exciting I have planned with my favorite delinquent (hope that goes according to plan).
- As of yesterday, 24th July, I’m leaving for London in exactly a month’s time, so if you think I love you, or if you love me, we should meet up. The past two years of excitement have finally melted into mixed emotions.
- The mother got a data plan for the iPad, so even sans iPhone, my life’s back to normal again; couldn’t be happier.

MagCloud

Bought some magazines from MagCloud a while back, but they only arrived this week. They travelled from the US to Canada, back to the US, then to the UK before reaching their destination. Despite the frustration, I was pretty impressed by their customer service. Apparently the shipment was rejected in Canada and returned (don’t quite know why), but they quickly shipped it off to London upon my inquiry, no questions asked & with no additional charge. That’s how online shopping should be. I ordered two eatsleepdraw magazines & two snapixel magazines; wished the eatsleepdraw ones had a couple more pages.
